This Trent agenda needs to come to an end already. The media has made it a habit of overemphasizing a few errors against quality players, despite being a solid and consistent defender for the past couple of years. His positioning has improved drastically, and his 1v1 ability has improved, with experience. The fact they have to overemphasize little errors shows their bias and the fact they are clutching at straws to find flaws in one of the most complete players in the world.

Joel Matip is gonna go down as one of the most underrated Liverpool players in modern history. Was comfortably our best defender for a good few years until Van Dijk arrived. For a period between 2017 and 2021 he was genuinely world class for us when fit.

Matip's highest ever rating on FIFA was a 83, possible a 84 with a mid season update. Kids from the future will probably look upon him as some mid random guy. But not us. We know.

Trent being a bad defender is a myth. Doku is one of the best 1v1 attackers and Trent limited him from dribbling into any positions of real menace. Trent’s positioning was good and his teammates did a fantastic job of forcing Doku into crowds of players that he could not get through.

Asside from the shit performance as a team, I think there was another reason why we didn't play good today: With Trent inverting and Gomez playing as a right footed LB we had 2 defenders inverted. Also our wingers (Salah and Jota) were way too inverted this game. We didn't make use of the whole pitch, but the players were all on a heap (I'm not sure if that's the right translation). Those inverting back(s) can work, but in that case we need real wingers wo will hug the touchline and not be inverting the whole time. Salah can do that like we see this season, but he didn't do it today. Jota still isn't a winger for me and can't make a dribble like a real winger (like Diaz) can do. So the tactics were not good at all today, especially because they played with wingbacks too

Tbh he looks like he doesn't belong at this level. Hopefully he can adjust but at the moment he looks out of his depth. Passes seem to fast for him, he doesn't recognize when and where to make runs, doesn't pick the right pass or even the right side to turn to for a shot, too slow in decision making. Its gonna be a doozy if he's their #9.
