There’s no one to blame for that result but Romero. We were in control until he started acting like the fucking mental case of the last 2 seasons. So incredibly infuriating to see him still acting that way and fucking up the game for everyone else.

Think if Davies is fit I’d swap him and Emerson honestly. Davies has some experience at CB, is left footed so allows us to play out from the back a bit easier, and Emerson seems more effective as an inverted fullback.

I wrote an elaboration on it a long while ago, but that's lost to thee annuls of time now. So the UCL final loss caused a few different things; 1) Levy believed that because the club had reached the UCL final that the squad was strong enough to reach the UCL final, a grave error on his part. Levy believed we were one or two good transfers away from playing with the big boys, and while he did loosen the purse strings to sign Ndombele and Sessegnon, he didn't feel the urgency to sign better centre backs, a better backup GK, or any of the other positions we sorely lacked depth in. This contributed to the likes of Mourinho, Nuno, and Conte being hired because Levy couldn't understand why a UCL Final level squad wasn't working. 2) Player morale tanked after the final. The players knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of them. Many of them played out of their skins to get there, especially Moura. Moura not starting the final was bad enough, but the players never really seemed focused again after the game. It was especially hard on the younger players and Dele, who was already struggling for form. Low morale breeds poor decisions and erodes team cohesion, the players fell apart. The bottle culture already prevalent among them festered into something much worse, and a lot of them put the blame in management to avoid taking the responsibility for their own shitty play. Dele got in his own head after that. He wasn't fantastic in the 18/19 season, but 19/20 and 20/21 showed a steep drop-off in his form, even before Poch was sacked and the attacking football stopped. 3) Poch's credentials became inflamed. He was linked with some of the best clubs in Europe; Real, PSG, and Juve (iirc). Here was a manager without a single trophy or title to his name, and he was was considered one of the best managers in the business because he took Spurs to a UCL final. He never made great subs in games, and usually if his default tactic didn't work he lost the match unless his players stepped up. His style relies on team morale and cohesion, as soon as he loses that it falls apart for him. He may even have fallen out with Levy trying to convince him that the squad was not, in-fact, a UCL Final level squad.

We didn’t miss Bissouma at all so yeah. It was a game that suited Pierre more, and he played really well. As has been said on this page I’d be happy with Pierre against Palace (avoids Bissouma possibly getting a yellow and a ban) and then bring Bissouma back in for Chelsea. Each are well suited to each game and we’re incredibly lucky to have both. Having a 6 that works well against a press and another that’s great against a low block is an amazing privilege.

Both all too attacking and talented to fit the mould. Really needs to be a master of none proper centre mid. Not too attacking, not too defensive, not too anything at all really.
