L'Equipe has given the list of the 10 best paid coaches in the world, led by Simeone, and where Xavi is not on the list. And he is not there because he earns 3.8 million euros. In other words, he continues to receive the salary he signed a year and a half ago when Barça could not offer him more because of financial fair play. And he did not take advantage of the levers to renegotiate that situation in the summer and increase his salary to around 7.5 million (which was what Koeman for example, Valverde much more), but kept his salary intact so as not to pose a problem to the club in the struggle to fit the 'financial fair play'. He paid out of his own pocket to leave Al Sadd, a club that paid him more than what Barça are paying him, where he was earning plenty and didn't have to put up with the harassment and demolition he is experiencing at Barça, nor face one of the most complex situations in Barça's memory, and yet he decided to come and show that he is not doing it for money but to be a Culé like any other, after having rejected a 4-year contract in 2015 that would have meant a comfortable sum of money for him. Obviously in the future and as soon as we can, we will have to improve his contract and Xavi will also somehow think about the money, but what is a proven fact is that he has come here and is here for love of Barça like Puyol had, and I will certainly not forget that. If things ever go wrong, I won't be the one to contribute to the brutal criticism of someone who is demonstrating a Barcelonismo beyond all doubt, as well as starting to turn around the terrible situation Barça was in, despite having to endure the miserable harassment and demolition to which we are being subjected. The true barcelonista, it is very easy to kiss the shield and not show anything, let's hope that others, the ones we need today, be like xavi.
avatar
If we lose against united : "Another European failure of xavi, he is not a coach for European competitions, he only wins because the league has no level, he has no merits". If we win the europa league: " Well, you're going to tell me that this competition has some value.... it's a second-rate tournament.... xavi has no merit" This is how the media in spain act and then they spread all over the world, the Barcelonistas should not pay attention to these provocations.

I don't think UCL matters in any way to how great a player is individually. There is so many players who are ass but has won UCL and so many world class palyers who hasn't. Zlatan isn't overrated, not even by himself, he was insane in his prime.
avatar
Hmmm. Disagree on Zlatan. It's hard to find anyone who was a pro player in 1999 still active today. 500+ career goals, about a dozen ballon dor nominations, succeeded at lots of top teams, won a lot of trophies. Maybe a little oerrated because of his lack of UCLs. But not as overrated as Balotelli. Moments of brilliance but thinks way too much of himself.
avatar
Actually raphs first UCL start and it's vs Bayern. I understand the bad game he's having. But we've seen his best and he'll improve. Fact is we're better than last 5 seasons. The results of this game doesn't change it, so far we're definitely the better side. Fati for raph.
avatar
Not a fan of Alonso and Hector but it is what it is. We have to support them
avatar
So many football experts, economic experts, and now so many lawyers lmao British fans are the funniest, especially United fans
avatar
I mean, that goes the other way as well. Non Barca fans have been doing the exact opposite, aren't they? Let's wait for any report to be confirmed before commenting on this, positive or negative.

i'm sorry but this is such a garbage mentality. Xavi is our 4th coach in 2yrs he hasn't even had a full season yet, didn't even have a pre season until now and has done a fantastic job so far. and you're already thinking of a next coach if Xavi wins nothing... that's seriously gotta be a fucking joke. we can't keep sacking our coach at the first sign of trouble. otherwise we're not gonna get anywhere no matter how much money we invest. we finally have a coach in Xavi that is building a competitive team now and for the future and bringing back the club philosophy and play style WE'VE ALL BEEN PREACHING FOR since Valverde, Setien and Koeman's time at the club and now we finally have that. your first thought is "look Xavi we've invested time and money into you and we completely trust and have faith in you but if you win nothing we're gonna kick him to the curb because we can." do you not see how fucking stupid that is? do you see Man City investing all this time and money into Pep and just sack him as well? do you see their fans chant #PepOut because they've failed to win the CL? No you don't. idgaf what we've invested if we as Barca fans can't see the bigger picture of what Xavi is building and can't give him time and our patience then what's the fucking point? where do we go from here? because it isn't going to be upwards we're not gonna be the best if we keep making impulsive decisions. i'm not saying it's ok to lose or to not try. because we will try, we will compete for everything this season but there is no guarantees we win anything nor should we hold Xavi and the team to that standard. all we can do is give our all and try our best to win. we could invest 500m and have the best squad in the world yet it still doesn't mean anything. Real Madrid proved you can win the league and the CL without having the best team. all we've done this summer and Laporta has said many times is "we've invested to make the team more competitive" in the hopes we win titles not once has he said we must win or we will win. because Laporta isn't a idiot nor dumb enough to think because we invested 200m that somehow makes us entitled and guaranteed to win something or to sack Xavi in the event that he doesn't deliver.
avatar
I surely understand how you feel, but he’s been pretty decent for us at some point and since there aren’t really any good options available on the market, we may give him a chance under Xavi. There are other spots that are more critical and more realistically solved - rw (Raphinha), lb (Gaya), lcb (Lisandro). There’s also the Busquets problem.
avatar
Lmfao you even dream about Barcelona?? The obsession is real 😂
avatar
Idgaf, I’ll find and fight you if Xavi does a bad job and you kids start disrespecting him
avatar
Didn't think I'll miss Goathwaite one day
avatar
Hey people, don't give up on your dream. If you think being a football player is impossible look at Luik de Jong. He is a striker for Barcelona, you could at least make it at Eibar. Ok maybe you're just that bad that you can't even be a Luuk de Jong? Try becoming a manager! If Ronald Koeman can do it then so can you.
avatar
I understand that Luis Enrique could've played many more experience and proven players but Gavi played very good with Spain
avatar
Last season: Pedri This season: Demir If Barcelona keep finding these cheap gems then that's working towards the future + their own youth (Puig, Gavi, Balde, etc). Now selling the umtities, Lenglet's and others for whatever you can even for free and building towards something new. New is scare and exciting, might need to start at a slow rate, but you'll be back. Good luck for the season guys!
avatar
The key too rebuilding the club is TRUSTING LA MASIA period.
avatar
Busquets and Pedri masterclass
avatar
Lol man hasn't dropped a bad performance under Lucho, including that game where they trashed Germany. It's down to Spain's football not their oponent's
avatar
Seems like Busquets isn't so bad is he ? 👀 Look what happens when you play actual football, press hard and keep possession
avatar
maturing is realizing this man is the second best cdm of all time. (been saying this for years)

To know why Pep Guardiola says he won't return as Barça's first-team coach, one only needs to look at Mundo Deportivo and Sport today. Sport's front cover read: ʿNeymar outʾ. In a section by Xavier Bosch at MD entitled ʿI didn't like...ʾ, the subheading was ʿPSG and Neymar will continue without European gloryʾ. Catalan newspapers that support Barcelona are more obsessed with Neymar than proud of a Catalan made in Barcelona achieving success. In fact, it's not only that they ʿforgetʾ about his successes, but that they loathe them. While for culés any Pep side will always be almost our second team, those journalists despise him as much as we could despise José Mourinho. The question is why. Barça is a complex club where the entourage makes huge noise and which is ideologically divided into the progressive, radical Cruyffism, and the local, conservative Nuñism. Guardiola obviously embodies the former, while Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, but also MD and the establishment in the media, represent the latter. Guardiola coming back doesn't depend on the players, the titles or even the president﹙despite with Barto the chances were 0, while with Joan Laporta they might be 0.1﹚. But the reason, alongside his desire to explore other cultures, is the massacre from the local media, how they never leave him alone even when he has left. City are perfect for him: less pressure or hate from the media, close friends in the board in Txiki and Ferran Soriano, abundant resources...For me, though, we should invest all efforts in bringing him, not Neymar, back in one way or another.

Goodbye PSG and Real Madrid, what a nice week
avatar
PSG and Real madrid out of the champions league, I could not have been happier today
avatar
I agree 100%, no player should be untouchable for a manager if the player refuses to listen to his instructions.
avatar
We. Are. Champions. The overwhelming superiority was displayed in the first half already, but it was maintained until the very last second of the match. And the goals all followed. The beauty of each of them, not as an ornament but as a way to be. Each goal was a joy to watch. The opener, with the sequence Lionel Messi → Frenkie de Jong → Antoine Griezmann. The Dutchman with his run as a winger, before sending an accurate ball for Griezmann's favourite zone. There were few spaces behind Athletic Club's defence today, but the number 7 read them extremely well and he totally justified his selection. For De Jong, his all-pitch influence was further demonstrated in Barça's second, which came after some dribbling and a nutmeg from him, before attacking the area as a 9. The cross, from Jordi Alba, who, like Griezmann and De Jong, has had an extraordinary and heroic Copa campaign. But no one thrives in these finals, especially against Athletic, like Messi. 2015 vibes with his slalom goal, but on this occasion it featured a lovely double one-two with De Jong. Messi's brace was completed after another assist from Alba, who appeared to have all passing options covered before he found the typical cutback to the captain. Athletic could never stop the bleeding, and they were totally dominated in all facets. Individual and collective masterclasses for the Cup Kings. Vamooooooooos! ¡Força Barça!

That was vintage Barca that second half, I gotta admit. Congrats on your success and I hope you build on this.
avatar
And people still compare him with valverde🤣

With one goal and two assists against Athletic, @FCBarcelona's Frenkie de Jong 🇳🇱 is the second player to be directly involved in three goals in a Copa del Rey final in the 21st century, after Lionel Messi 🇦🇷 against Sevilla in 2018 (one goal, two assists). Stellar. https://s3a.sofifa.net/12416489c2d0356ac7392211a8deb60b50d1a31f.jpg

Honestly tho ... the only bad part about this game was not being clinical in the first half , we really thoroughly dominated this game
avatar
The easiest match this copa run was the final lol

Times are changing little boy. City have plenty of their own history and we're writing new history every season. I know everyone talks about playing for Madrid, Barca, Milan for their history etc. but City are a very enticing club for young players. The EPL is a great league, we have an amazing project and a team full of stars and future stars. Like I said in my post I think it's 50/50 he'll join us.
avatar
So crazy how not only is Messi one of the best goalscorers of all time, but arguably the best passer/play maker of all time as well. Ronaldo is clearly better at certain things, but Messi as a footballer throughout his career is clear https://youtu.be/B153SMxlHjs
avatar
If we get 35m+ offer, than sure. Otherwise I'd rather keep him.

It's a bit of a complicated story really Back then Coutinho was supposed to be Iniesta successor according to everyone but it seemed like the coach Valverde didn't think he will work out there and at the same time he was still forced to play him with the pressure from Bartomeu and his board so he moved him into a wider position At the start he played as a Right/Left midfielder in the 4-4-2 formation wich kinda suited him well but again our board forced Valverde to change back to our original 4-3-3 wich have no place for Coutinho in it and at the same time he cannot drop him from the starting lineups so his only solution was to play him on the wing hoping it will workout but obviously it didn't

Probably keep R9. He wanted to stay at Barcelona and was about to sign a renewal, but the board didn’t value him enough to extend his contract... Maybe one of the stupidest things a Barcelona board have done
avatar
he deserved the criticism he got from the first half of the season but hes done what a good coach would do and adapted

Would you guys agree that MATS is the player we currently have who come closest to Puyol in terms of personality and leadership? He just seems like a really good and fair guy, the type of person you’d want to be friends with.
avatar
Hakan Calhanoglu might not get all the spotlight the way Ibrahimovic does, but Milan's new formation works as well as it does due to his passing, dribbling, vision and long shots. 17 goal participations (8G+9A in his las 12 matches. But EA gives him a downgrade lol
avatar
Based on form, what should be our starting midfield? I'd say Arthur-Frenkie-Vidal for now.
avatar
Arda+50 million. Take it or leave it, Nasser.
avatar
Why would the board feel the need to buy Neymar? This squad is STACKED, if anything we need departures. Valverde has his hands full for next season, he's literally being set up for failure. It's a tall task for even the best managers to control all those egos and big personalities, balancing their play time and making the right tactical choices. If we STILL need Neymar (which I am of the opinion we don't) when we have Griezmann, Dembele, Messi and Suarez, the board really needs to rethink what some of those players are doing at the club. This isn't a FIFA game.

On the flight home to Barcelona: Sergi watching Line of Duty, Carles Alena playing on his FM save, a few players playing parchis and Frenkie watching Napoli highlights. Only Carles doing something productive to improve his understanding of the game, shameful of the others /s
