Japanese players are so underrated man, it's crazy how folks can think their showing in the World Cup was just a coincidence. I've enjoyed following their players these past 4 years and they've went above and beyond with development and setting standards for their countries own League in terms of quality.
In the EPL Mitoma cooking, Tomiyasu is super consistent. Kubo coming along nicely in Spain and several performing very well in Germany 1st and even 2nd division like Kamada, Ito, Doan, Itakura, Ao Tanaka, Endo and so on.
There is a reason Celtic raided them, Maeda a menace on a counter attack, Furahashi a magician and Hatate who will cook a top 5 league sooner or later and a good few underrated one's in the Portuguese and Belgian leagues and other smaller leagues.
All in all the J-league standard is higher than most in Europe realise and players under 18 are looking very promising and the 19-21yr old hidden gems are too many as well as the players who are 22 and over that are just straight up slept on and underrated like Mitoma.
Some 19-21 yr olds who's names you should watch out for in the next few years, Kuryu Matsuki, Joel Chima Fujita, Shinya Nakano, Shunsuke Mito, Zion Suzuki and Riku Yamane to name a few.
