A lot of apologist stuff here that I'm surprised gets a lot of support. To an extent, it is unacceptable to expressly not support LGBT rights in a lot of countries and communities. The official sentiment about racism in most developed countries and many other communities (for example sports bodies like FIFA) is that you are not really allowed to express that you do not believe in racial equality. LGBT is reaching that status in the developed world. You cannot get away with being neutral in this type of circumstance, and if you don't support equality, that then necessarily means you do support inequality, which is not ok. You have reasons to not support a certain cause, but you cannot really be totally unsupportive of the issue in general. Of course you don't have to go out of your way to support it, and you can refuse to take part in certain shows of support, but naturally people will question whether you are actually in opposition to the cause, and I think that's fairly reasonable. But I 100% agree that forming a lynch mob over something like this is way out of proportion, and it is certainly hypocritical and likely counterproductive to persecute so quickly without drawing attention to the problem and trying to resolve it in a more civilised way (which most people are doing IMO, just not the loudest ones).
