I shortlisted C. Gallagher as another potential for the '8' role but opted for Henderson as his character and experience could be useful for seeing out games and team morale. H. Maguire is a controversial pick but once again I feel his experience and threat from set-pieces could be useful as an option and he's never really let England down when he has played. A-Webster is an outsider shout but I'm a big fan of his ball-playing ability and the fact that he's so comfortable with both feet which gives him the edge over Coady, Smelling, Dier or Dunk (I did consider Burn for this role though). I also fancied C. Wilson for another option up top but opted for Rashford whose form has been improving and also has the advantage of also being able to play on the left. Although JWP has been very out of form at club level, he'd always be a good option to have as a set-piece specialist and engine in midfield who's always certain to run his socks off in every game)

If B. Chilwell or R. James were fit then they'd be ahead of Shaw and T.A.A. respectively.

It's unlikely to be used by Southgate but I like the look of a 4-3-3 with a midfield being balanced and consisting of a 6/8/10, although in tougher games thi could be switched for a 4-2-3-1 with 2 '6s' (e.g. Rice and Phillips/Henderson) and a 10 behind the striker (Maddison would be perfect for this given his current form and it'd stop Kane having to drop deep to build play so he would always be a threat in and around the box).
